MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The International Institute of Wisconsin (IIW), producers of the Holiday Folk Fair International, America’s premiere multi-cultural festival, announced today that the 78th annual event will be virtual in 2021. Those wishing to experience Folk Fair will be able to do it from “wherever you are” Fri., Nov. 19 – Sun., Nov. 21 through the event’s website and Facebook page.
Celebrating the cultural heritage of the people living in southeastern Wisconsin, the 2021 Holiday Folk Fair International will feature the entertainment, artisan and cooking demonstrations, and education that Fair-goers have come to cherish.
“The IIW’s board of directors, after a great deal of discussion, decided the 2021 Holiday Folk Fair International will not be done as an in-person event amidst the uncertainty of COVID-19,” said Alexander Durtka, Jr., President of the IIW. “Having conducted the 2020 event virtually, thousands of visitors to the Folk Fair website experienced the traditions of dozens of ethnic groups that call Milwaukee and the surrounding communities home. We are discussing new plans for 2021 that will again present cultural traditions from around the globe, making Folk Fair safe and enjoyable for all.”
The online event will feature various ethnic groups presenting their culture through music, dance, food, and the arts. “The groups that have been regular Folk Fair participants are excited about the ways they will explain their customs to those in Wisconsin and throughout the world,” Durtka said.
A goal of the 2021 Holiday Folk Fair will be to continue nurturing an atmosphere of learning and understanding, of respect and tolerance. “We want those who participate in Folk Fair to find how they can best shape the lives they lead within the community they call home,” Durtka said.
Specific information on the 2021 Holiday Folk Fair International, including details on Facebook live events, will be shared in the weeks ahead on the event’s website and social media channels or by calling 414-225-6225.
